Till death do us part? Just a phrase of the past?

With all that’s going on in the world, anytime I turn on the tv or search around the Internet, Tiget Woods’ affairs are all everyone talks about. I understand that when you are a public figure, and with status like his, it’s difficult to have any level of privacy. But I understand what he’s going through.

I am just a girl from Culver City,Ca, but I know what it’s like to have my family in somewhat spotlight. As a young girl, 2 years old to be exact, my mother started to get bored with how her life was. She had an amazing husband who did everything she wanted and provided her with everything, 3 little daughters, a home valued at 2.4 million, and she had friends and family who loved her. But she wasn’t happy with that. So she strayed from my father and family and cheated on him. That lead to their separation when I was 3, and a very long divorce and custoday battle that was settles when I was 7.

My parents were the parents who helped out at my school everyday, my father was a successful realtor, very well known. That is how I know a little about what Tiger might be going thru. What shouldve been a family matter and not for anyone elses business, was all over the city. Kids in my elementary class knew what was going on.

It takes a real toll on a family. Especially kids at a young age. Researchers say that in America, the divorce rate is between 40-50%, but very close to 50%, is a sad fact on marriage in this country.

And for media to think they have a right to blast someone business like that is wrong. I’m not saying Tigers cheating was acceptable, but it’s between him and his family. And for the mistresses to come out and tell everyone everything is sick. Whatever happens, doesn’t need to have everyone opinion.

What is news?

December 11, 2009 by downbyethecshore

I was out to dinner recently with a group of my friends. We are a very talkative bunch of college students with tons of opinions. My sisters boyfriend happened to mention that he was browsing news websites for a paper he had been working on. He uploaded the CNN page, and to his surprise the headlining story was “Miley Cyrus has a tattoo!!”.
We were all pretty shocked to google it onbour iPhones and blackberries and see that it was true. It’s a shame that such a respected news source such as CNN has put Miley Cyrus before the war, school budget cuts, the health care crisis, and much more important issues.
I get that Miley is a pop icon and a phenomenon of the world, but who cares. Sure she might be 17, but they made a huge deal out of it. She got it for a friend who passed away from cystic fibrosis a few years ago, which is sweet, but it’s not news.

It’s just a shame to see such well respected media sources turn into such websites such like perezhilton.com and tmz.

what is wrong with the world?

September 25, 2009 by downbyethecshore

This morning, before I went to work, I had a chance to talk to my dad. He and I haven’t been able to see each other because he and I work so much. Not to mention I go to school. He mentioned to me that he read an article on cnn.com, about tobacco harvesting farms/factories, and how children between the ages of 5-14 were working them.which once again I say, what is wrong with the world.

Since when is it okay to put kids in an enviornment, where they should be out playing with friends, going to school, being a kid. Instead they are working 12-hour days, to make only 17 cents. In conditions where there is no water to wash their hands, and bosses, who treat them horribly. 78,000 boys and girls,in Malawi, are working without gloves, which causes an absorbtion of the nicotine thru their hands. The same about they absorb in a day, is equivilant to smoking 50 cigarettes. Cnn.com also reports that 75% of the tobacoo production, is in countries such as, Malawi, Tanzania, Zimbabwe,Brazil, India, and China.

“Sometimes it feels like you don’t have enough breath…You reach a point where you cannot breathe because of the pain in your chest. Then the blood comes when you vomit. At the end, most of this dies and then you remain with a headache,” the report quoted one child describing how he felt at the end of the day.

To hear a child describe what he goes thru is heartbreaking to me. My mother smoked cigarettes when I was a child, always had the smoke in my face.Due to that, I can’t be near cigarette or anytime of smoke for that matter for too long, or I get nose bleeds.

I understand that these children aren’t smoking the tobacco, its just picturing them working, with their little hands to do their work, get their money, and use it for clothes, food, and the chance to go to school. When it should be their parents working about those. It baffles me, that we live in a world, where children are working in factories, where it could lead to premature deaths or long lasting effects.

We all need to open our eyes and change things. All 6+ billion of us. Afterall, our parents are always saying, its our generation that’s going to change the world. Why not start today?

15 minutes of fame. . .

September 19, 2009 by downbyethecshore

I am honestly getting really tired of reality stars, and them taking advantage of our tv’s and movies. What I don’t understand is the obsession with them. With actual stars such as Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, and many others who have talent,I understand the love they have from fans.

These reality stars aren’t necessarily from famous families, nor do they have actually talent. Take the Mtv series, The Hills. A bunch of twenty something fame driven people, who fight with each other, make up rumors about sex tapes, and star in horrible horror movies. Or The Bachelor, a guy who gets to choose 1 woman out of 25 to possibly marry. I doubt people who go on that show are really looking for marriage. Just their 15 minutes of fame.

I don’t understand why a network would pay money for these people. It makes no sense to me. I wouldn’t in a million years pay good money to have someone play a role and make it seem real. The outrageous thing is that people love this stuff. My sister is a huge fan of reality series.

What’s so sad is people’s need these days for fame and money and to be known. Don’t get me wrong, I want to be an actress, thats been my dream since I was a little girl. But its not for the money or fame. Its for the love of making people see a movie, and move them, touch them in some sort of way. To make a character come to life. That’s what I love.

Its upsetting that our generation seems to just think that being famous will get you everything, when in reality, you kind of lose everything.

Until next time. . .

Little Girls, Growing Up way too Fast!

September 12, 2009 by downbyethecshore

Growing up in the 90’s, my sisters and I were all about whatever Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were wearing. They were always in age appropriate clothes. Always very cute, fresh, and young. So of course naturally, what they though was in, I did too.

I am not only a full time student at SMC and USC, I am also a full time Head Cashier at Forever 21. So everyday, its natural for me to help girls in their “tween” years to find clothes for school or just everyday wear. Unfortunately, for what I think is appropriate for a 12 year old girl, well, she seems to think is “too young” for her. I lead her to a section with cute sundresses, thinking she’d like something. Unfortunately I was very wrong.

She than grabbed me by my hand, and took me to a room in the store that she always saw her sister shop in. She grabbed a bunch of clothes, a few skinny jeans (I thought “okay, no biggy”), a couple cropped cardigans, and to my surprise a couple cut-out shirts. I asked if she needed any cami’s to go under the shirts, and she looked at me with a “Are you serious face”. I than asked if she wanted to look around at any other rooms in the store, and she replied with “Let’s go to the fitting room, and you can help me with what looks good or not.”

As I followed her to the fitting room, I waited outside, helping another associate hang items from previous customers. The young girl came out in her first outfit, and to my horror, she came out wearing the cut-out shirt and skinny jeans. I just stood there, probably with a face of disbelief. She asked “How do I look?”, and I told her, “To be honest, I really think a girl your age shouldn’t be wearing clothes like that. Girls my age shouldn’t, but they do!”. She than told me she appreciated my advice, but that there was a certain boy at school she has to impress.

As soon as I heard that it made me think. What the heck is wrong with being a little girl. Now I get that media is a huge factor in this crazy world. I mean when Britney Spears became a household name, she was innocent at 16, and belly baring bomb shell at 18. Its a very disturbing thought to have and sight to see.. To see little girls ages from 12-16, possibly even younger, want to dress like how woman in their 20’s should. When I was a 12 year old girl, I was worried about the next softball game I had, and how we’d beat the team. Or if I had a school project coming up. I wasn’t worried about dressing sexy or impressing boys. But than again, times have changed from now, and 8 years ago.

I guess I’ll never understand why girls have always wanted to grow up faster. They steal their mothers makeup when their 8, and now their dressing way to provocative than they should. Maybe its just me, maybe I’m just old fashioned. I just know that anytime a little girl tells me that “she can’t wait to grow up”, I always tell her “there’s no rush.” There really isn’t.

That’s all I have for now. Until next time. . .
